Water boxer manual oil cooling/filtering
German Transaxle has come up with an answer for those that want to plumb their vanagon transaxles for oil cooling and/or filtering. We wanted to keep this as simple as possible and believe we've found a great solution. We machine a port on the passenger side of the bell housing for the oil pick. The return is placed on the drivers side in the gear carrier, we perform some light machine work and a special bulk head fitting is placed so that the cool return oil is sprayed onto the 4th gear.
The cost for both bell housing, and gear carrier machining and parts is $250.00
This modification can only be done while the whole transaxle is apart. This is not a bolt in set-up. We can machine your parts if you want to disassemble and send in your parts but is typically done during a complete rebuild.
